We often prioritize work, hobbies, and other obligations over spending time with our families. However, connecting with family is crucial for our overall well-being and happiness. Here are some reasons why:
- Family provides emotional support: When we have a strong connection with our family members, we know that they are always there for us in times of need. Whether we’re going through a tough time at work or dealing with a personal issue, our family can offer comfort and support.
- Family helps us stay grounded: No matter how successful we may become, our family members know us best and can help us stay humble and grounded. They can remind us of our values and priorities, and keep us focused on what truly matters in life.
- Family creates lasting memories: When we look back on our lives, some of our most cherished memories are often with our family members. Whether it’s a family vacation, holiday celebration, or simple weekend spent together, these moments create bonds that last a lifetime.
- Family teaches us important life skills: Our family members can serve as mentors and teachers, helping us learn important life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. These skills are not only important for our personal relationships, but also for our professional success.
- Family provides a sense of identity: Our family members are a part of who we are, and they can help us better understand our own identity and place in the world. By connecting with family, we can learn more about our family history and traditions, and feel a greater sense of belonging.
It’s important that we prioritize connecting with our families. Whether it’s through regular phone calls, visits, or family events, these connections provide us with emotional support, help us stay grounded, create lasting memories, teach us important life skills, and provide a sense of identity. By investing in our family relationships, we can lead happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
So HOW do we stay connected?
You can start by scheduling a family time: Set aside time each week or month for family activities. This can be something as simple as a movie night at home or a family outing to a local park or attraction.

Next you can have meals together: Eating together as a family is a great way to bond and catch up on each other’s lives. Try to have at least one meal together each day, even if it’s just breakfast or dinner.

Communicate regularly ALWAYS!! more than regularly, almost all the time!: Communication is key to staying connected as a family. Make an effort to talk to each other regularly, whether it’s in person, over the phone, or through text or email although in person is the most idea.

Celebrating special occasions mark important milestones and events and celebrating together as a family helps to create lasting memories and strengthen family ties. Plan celebrations for birthdays, holidays, and other significant occasions.

Support each other: Be there for each other through good times and bad. Show support and offer help when needed, whether it’s with school work, a personal project, or a difficult situation.

Just put down your device. I know how tough it can be to set down your phone, but I urge you to try. There are some things you may notice after you put it down. I became more productive, more social, and less stressed out. I am more aware of my surroundings, and my relationships do better. I feel more empowered and last but not least I am overall happier.
Now it’s up to you. Get closer to your family and relationships.
